Dinner at the Burj
J had arranged for us to have a "Culinary Flight" at the Burj Al Arab. The amazing sail-shaped 7-star hotel...don't ask about the price! Unfortunately despite phoning for a taxi over an hour before we wanted to be there, none came and we were forced to drive there (about 10 min from her house), and they wouldn't let us park there overnight so we had to street park nearby!
Still once we were finally in the adventure began!
In the Sky Bar (the bit that sticks out near the top) with a cocktail and canapes that could have constituted a meal in themselves. Excellent.
Next, the starter in the Al Muntaha on the same floor. I had oysters, J had lobster bisque...both fine and served with a glass of Ruinart Blans de Blanc.
Then we were escorted to the lobby level to Al Iwan for scallops for me and pigeon for J washed down with a Kiwi Sauv Blanc
Onto the Asian restaurant, Junsu, which was my personal favourite, for Korean Braised Short Rib and Roasted Duck Rolls, yum! and a different Kiwi Sauv Blanc.
The main course was in Al Mahara, the "restaurant under the sea". Unfortunately the "submarine" wasn't running and we had to make do with the ordinary lift! The aquarium is in this restaurant and perhaps that was why we both chose the Wagyu Beef with Fois Gras! washed down with an Aussie Red Blend.
Dessert was up in the lounge and by this time it was gone midnight! I know we had a selection of desserts, but I haven'e the faintest idea what they were,
It was an amazing experience and almost certainly a once-in- a- lifetime one.
I enjoyed most of it, but it was too long as we ordered separately in each restaurant and then had to wait for it to be cooked.
And after all that booze, we had to get a taxi back to Js house...although for another 50quid a head we could have booked the Rolls!
