Axing Children's Centres

Went to the demo in Oxford today trying to halt the plans of the controlling Tory County Councillors to close all 44 Children's Centres across the county. A good crowd, mainly of mothers and their children. We made a lot of noise marching through town and down to the Council offices then with sustained chanting accompanied by massed rattles made sure they could hear us in the council chamber. After the demo most of the assembled citizens went in to the cabinet meeting to make their views heard.

I noticed that they'd put on extra security at the doors and were screening people before they got in to make sure they didn't have any signs etc There was also much admonishing by a Tory councillor (who made my skin crawl) attempting to impress upon anyone entering their hallowed presence the need to behave in a respectful and civilised manner...as if there was anything civilised or worthy of respect in a body slashing vital community resources.
