Will it matter if we move this?

On one of the jobs I am currently working on, the builders found this encased in a wall. The trouble is, this now needs to be a door to a new room. No one is sure what it does and what the impact of cutting it might be. Maybe an old phone system, or perhaps the current one?
I'm sure we'll find out soon!
