Yellow Bristle-grass

At the moment my time seems to be split between home, Orton Pit and Stamford, leaving little opportunity for creative photography. While in Stamford I did a little botanical recording, and was delighted to find a small colony of the pretty and delicate Yellow Bristle-grass Setaria pumila growing at the edge of a public open space in the back-streets of the town. It's the first time I've ever found this species, which is well established in southern Britain, but rather scarce in our area. It originates from southern Europe, but is established over many warm temperate and sub-tropical parts of the world. In New Zealand it can cover 20-40% of otherwise productive dairy farming pasture causing a loss in milk production
