It doesn't really feel like three years since middle child left for Uni, and now it's approaching time for youngest to make the transition, we'll be making the trip and dropping him off on Saturday in Sheffield. He'll go without turning back to see if we're gone but grounded in the family he grows up out of.
Tonight just the two of us went in search of a flight of beer and fine charcuterie and cheese, and having found it, acknowledged the moment. Remembering my moving on millennia decades ago, and imagining his new beginnings and what he's already looking forward to both socially and academically, feeling his way to a new way of being and so much unknown but I think knowing himself well enough to go well.
I've reason to be proud of all my kids, and Benji no less than the others, proud not for what they achieve but much more for the people they've become.
