At Alexandria-Luss
In the middle of Aldochlay Bay at Alexandria-Luss, in Scotland, lies Swan Island, believed to have originated as a man-made island or crannog. Crannogs were man-made artificial structures dating back to iron-age settlers of 2500 years ago. The structures were dwelling places built out in the water, safe from predators. They were built by driving wooden piles into the loch bed and were reached by causeways. Today Swan Island remains as a reminder, and the sheltered, pretty bay now houses some very prosperous looking vessels.
