Gently down the stream

HMS Medusa

HMS Medusa, or HMS 1387, (I don't know which name is more correct) came up to Lymington today from Gosport.  The elderly - ahem, not very young - guys who restored and look after her were hilariously unsure why they were there.  One mumbled to me about it being an anniversary of a Trafalgar admiral he thought, but he didn't know which one.  She was only here for the day (like me).  Her next mission is up in London in October, but I'm not sure why due to the mumble.  She was also part of the Queen's Golden thingy pageant in 2012, that day it rained like the pit of doom.

However, going aboard was free, it got a mere mortal like me onto the pontoons where the yachts are moored and I only banged my head twice coming up the tiniest hatchways you've ever seen as well as making the most spectacular entrance of my life, into a pompous lecture to a party of private prep school kids by getting stuck in said hatchway due to there not being room to get my backpack up at the same time as me and having to crawl on my knees onto the deck!

For such a small vessel, the Medusa had a pretty lively career in her early days (more info here if you're interested).  I've added another shot in extras so you can see her overall size, sort of.  I decided to post this blip of her front end bows looking out into the Channel, though, because I thought the light such fun.

Enjoy your evening, peeps  xx
