Two Recumbent Figures ...

... and Moore :)  Today we visited Tate Britain, which has 634 works by the British artist Henry Moore (1898-1986).  "Recumbent Figure" (on the right) was the first work by Moore to enter the collection, in 1939, after the director had declared just the previous year, "over my dead body will Henry Moore ever enter the Tate."  The sleeping visitor lying on a bench at least was not snoring. We saw over three dozen works by Moore, in this and other galleries--he is one of my favorite modern artists.

But the main object of our visit was an extensive exhibition of Barbara Hepworth (1903-75), another excellent sculptor. It was fabulous, with much more of her work than I had ever seen before.

Evening was dinner with Susan and David, long-time London friends, emigrés from the U.S.
