View from the National Gallery
This morning I went to see the exhibition Audrey Hepburn - Portraits of an Icon at the National Portrait Gallery. I first attended a talk about the exhibition which was very interesting, where certain images were discussed. She was much admired by many famous photographers, and was something of a muse to Richard Avedon, with whom she had an enduring friendship, and was also very good friends with Givenchy the fashion designer - remember that stunning black dress she wore for the premiere of Breakfast at Tiffany's? The exhibition is wonderful, and there are some iconic photos by Cecil Beaton, Richard Avedon, Yousef Karsh and also including one of my favourites by Irving Penn.
It was raining when I came out, but I wandered around the corner to the National Gallery to get this view of Trafalgar Square - it is looking a bit of a mess with these barriers up and some building works going on, and there was also a food festival on. There was a very grumpy door man at the NG who was chasing everyone away who was sheltering from the rain outside the entrance to the NG. I quickly took this photo and then left.
Tonight, as everyone knows, is the start of the Rugby World Cup. Luke has some friends coming around and we will all be watching the opening ceremony and England's first match against Fiji. From my very limited knowledge of rugby it does seem as if England is in a rather tough pool compared to some of the other dominant teams.
