Farewell to old friends
Today I had the sad news of two deaths of old friends. The first ,pictured above, was a terrific character. He was best described as a cross between John Clees and Captain Hastings of Poirot fame! A true gentleman and a wonderful father. He was a survivor of throat cancer and of late open heart surgery . A civil engineer by trade he was responisble for designing many of the bridges replaced after the terrible floods in Lyton and Lymouth, and also worked on the design of the new harbour there. On a visit from Australia, his adopted country, a few years ago we took him back to Lymouth where he was able to tell us in detail much of the reconstruction of the area. He leaves three children and a wife all of whom he was adored by.
The second death I was told of today was that of a very close freind of my parents. Aunty Olga was 92 and passed away peacefully. She was a lovely lady with an unflappable temperament! I have so may happy memories of their visits to us from Hexham. Where ever we lived as a child Raymond and Olga would visit, happy to help with what ever was the job currently underway. In the early days they would travel to the farm in Devon on a motorbike and sidecar, quite a journey in those days from Hexham. I have always kept in touch and now Olga has gone she is the last of my parents freinds. All links have now gone. :-(
Farming - Two on compost hauling.
Mr Tbay, Mr Tbay Jnr and Mr and Mrs V have all gone to Twickenham to watch the opening ceremony of the world cup and then the opening match!!!!!!!!! I am just a tad envious. Currently I am watching the recorded ceremony and then the match. Hope England do well.
