Words Apart

After finally making it to Ypres yesterday evening, today was spent wandering around World War I battle sites before heading off to the Tunnel.

It was interesting, especially after some of the Nuremberg museums, to see how differently war history is told when told from the perspective of the victors.

This was taken as the Passchendaele memorial garden, where for the centenary commemorations, special gardens are being planted to represent the different nations who lost thousands of soldiers. This is the German one. The red posts mark out the boundaries of each garden, which is in the shape of a poppy. Most of them look scruffy at the moment, but it will be spectacular when completed.
