Between fen and mountains

Sunlight through fronds

Today has been another sparkling day but without heat haze, hot in the sun but cool in the shade.  I met with the conservator and a councillor this morning to see if a large paper document could be restored. It is a list of all the notable English donors who contributed to the building of the church in the early years of the 20th century when this village was a fashionable spa resort frequented by rich English tourists..  Rudyard Kipling and Princess Beatrice were among those who made generous donations.  It hangs in the back of the church but someone tried to preserve it with sticky backed plastic which was not a good idea!  The good news is that it could be restored but the bad news is that it would cost around €8000 which is beyond the resources of either the Mairie or the church.  Perhaps we can get some heritage funding for the project here in France.  This photo was taken in the park just down the road.
