Tiny Tuesday - Rolling Out Spring
This is a tiny 2cm long side leaf that is just unfurling on a frond of a punga tree . These individual leaves are spaced alternatively from side to side along the main stalk of the frond and will open one by one to form the fern with which we are all familiar. There is probably a scientific term for the process but I have no idea what it is.
This wasn't my best effort at getting the focus right - a dark corner under the tree, no place to put the tripod and a contortionist act required.
Ferns are fascinating at all stages of forming the new leaf. The extra shows one from a bit further along the stalk that is still tightly coiled. The main stalk forms the shape called a koru and also unfurls slowly. The second extra is the main stalk with the koru.
