pumping iron
I come to this place every Tuesday morning. People with heart and respiratory problems can exercise in a safe environment - where nobody minds if you can’t manage to do much - and where the staff are on hand to check heart rates, blood pressure and oxygen saturation levels, while we pump iron.
There are two exercise rooms - this is the ‘circuit training room’ where we undertake such functional activities such as ‘carrying the shopping across a road’, stacking shelves (with 1kg baked beans tins) and making the bed. (I joke not). We also use free weights and balls and hula-hoops.
The other room is full of machines (previously blipped here) and we alternate these rooms each week.
It’s an amazing place - and quite humbling. I’m one of the youngest and fittest - and so it’s really something to see people with oxygen masks riding exercise bikes and lifting weights.
