The never say Die Tree.
Twenty years ago this tree dominated the view, it was more than twice as tall, and symmetrical, until it was struck by lightning, set on fire and the main trunk sheered off at the left, leaving just the bough on the right, looking rather like an arm thrown up in distress.
When we first saw it the following spring, it was bare, charred and broken and look completely dead..
For a year it remained like that, then the following spring a few leaves appeared showing it was still alive.
Since then somehow against all the odds and a cruel fate, it grows more vigorous every year.
A sign for all to see that somehow life will triumph no matter what fate throws at it..
Each time we visit the lakes I stop to admire it and take a photo.
It is at the Honister end of Lake Buttermere if you are passing, stop look and admire it.
