new transom for Nibs

Did I tell you we decided to name the new boat Nibs? This is a term in the Cribbage games Steve & I continue to play -fun! If you pull up a Jack in certain situations during the play, it's called 'His Nibs' or 'Mr. Nibs' and you get to peg an extra point. I truly thought Steve might want to name the boat something else, but he knew I liked 'Nibs' for the boat and we decided that would be a great name, yee-ha!

Well, Steve found out in his early runnings of the boat that the transom (back of the boat where the motor is) was not correctly matched to the motor. If you look at this earlier photo here you'll see how the transom is shorter, scooped down the middle. That shape works best if you have a short-shaft motor. Our new boat came with a new motor with a long-shaft. So what did Steve do?? He re-did the transom!

This required cutting out the bad fiberglass and plywood, totally replacing it with new fiberglass and 2x6 pressure treated lumber. Then of course painting it. I think it came out great and now the motor works properly with no hiccups. We are in the shallow waters of Florida, so it is really better to have the motor attached higher up. He also installed the Bimini top for sun protection. You can see Steve's skilled work in the blip above . . .  I will miss traveling on the river in Nibs with Steve & the pups. They will be holding down the fort, while I'm visiting family & friends in Massachusetts for a whole week!
