Getting ready for next year
The stubble and green manure crop was sprayed this morning so we were expecting some more action soon. This afternoon the tractor arrived and started to plough the field.
Spraying the field with the huge spray contraption took about 15 minutes. Ploughing took nearly all afternoon with this clanky old tractor, ploughing very deeply. The field hasn't been ploughed that deep for several years, so we are now wondering what the next crop will be - maybe potatoes, or perhaps peas which haven't been grown there for at least 7 years. Let's hope it is not oilseed rape again.
The sun was lowish when I took this, and the light was very harsh but I liked the way it shone on the newly-turned soil, and through the trees which are just beginning to get their Autumn colours.
