Spider at work
This ambitious garden spider had spun a large web in a risky location: right in front of the window adjacent to our back door. It is a site constantly buffeted by wind, and I imagine the spider had to spend much of its time in carrying out repairs.
The interesting aspect of the spider's exertions is that it was always working from the hub - the centre of the web - running along the radial strands and then returning to the hub for a few seconds, apparently resting before running off in another direction. The hub is the white mass in front of the spider, it is where the spider "ties off" the web's radial strands and looks as if it comprises many hundreds of strands.
