The Attack
Today we visited an exhibition at the Rotterdam Museum which explained about the bombing and capture of Rotterdam by the Germans in the second world war.
Of course the destruction of a city and the killing of civilians is never an acceptable act but I came away with the impression that the whole destruction of Rotterdam was really an unnecessary event , maybe a mistake, caused by miscommunication and the chaos of war.
The exhibition uses a lot of old photos and video footage - which is remarkable given the circumstances, the equipment that was available and the difficulty of storing and preserving those images for all that time.
Overall this is an interesting if somber exhibition which makes you realize just how frightening a war is, and makes me wonder how anyone can justify these violent attacks in the name of some political or religious belief
