The Angel of Purity window
Today I went on a U3A trip to Quarry Bank Mill at Styal, Cheshire. It's a working cotton mill dating from the Industrial Revolution and powered by a huge water wheel that can be seen turning under the building. The extra photo is of one of the looms. We didn't have enough time to see everything properly or to see the grounds and garden so I'll have to return!
We then went to Victoria Baths in Manchester where we had a guided tour which I found fascinating. The baths were built in 1906 and are undergoing a huge restoration programme. Some of you might remember it winning BBC's Restoration a few years ago.
There are three baths with separate entrances, First Class Men, Second Class Men and Ladies. The entrances and facilities reflected the price charged.
The main photo is of the Angel of Purity stained glass window in the rest room of the Turkish baths. I love Art Deco and this is just wonderful, especially with the sun shining through it.
