At Peace
The title really has little to do with the shot, another sunset tonight but to be honest I was not in the mood to shoot. and the shot doesn't really matter
Last evening we lost my father in law who passed away having lost a very quick but horrifically aggressive battle with cancer. From diagnosis to his passing was a mere 45 days and the deterioration was just hideous.
I had to tell the twins, possibly one of the most difficult things I will ever have to do. There were tears and cuddles and then I sat and spoke to them about what had happened. We had prepared them well explaining his illness and that the doctors could not make him better. We spoke about how cancer happens, and cures, about doctors now being able to tap into growth receptors to slow the growth of tumours and how they can now use inhibitors to kill the cancer cell growth, very new technology and cutting edge science that mum, the chemist, understands way better than me but I explained as best I could.
I was interested to see the twins comprehend this science and the question was will doctors ever be able to cure cancer, I replied probably not but we may see a time when it becomes a chronic disease and not a certain killer.
Some hard days hard but as I oft say to my friend, "every day in every a little stronger"
Robert T Bruce was a larger than life figure, a man full of fun, always quick with a joke or a one liner. He never took life to seriously but that said he was successful in his younger life as a master paper maker and later after being made redundant working for one of the seed-mans working with golf courses and green keepers which suited him to a tee (PUN INTENDED). He loved to golf, to bowl and swim and walked his dogs daily on the beaches around his home. He always carried a camera and at the most inappropriate moments it would appear. He was many things to many people, a friend, a colleague, a sporting partner, but most of all he was a Husband, Dad, Grandpa and Uncle, a good and decent man who will be missed by very many people
For Robert, Goodbye, Farewell, Amen...
