In memory
Today we said goodbye to our fellow walker, Ian, at his funeral. The Methodist Chapel at Haltwhistle was packed with an overflow congregation in the hall. It was a beautiful day with sunshine and blue skies.
We walkers went dressed in our walking gear to honour Ian, who was buried in his.
I spoke about his passion for walking and about his involvment in the Festivals and in setting up the Wednesday walking group.
He was a quiet, unassuming man who knew every path in the area, some not on the maps! He devised interesting walks and led with ease. Sometimes it was hard to keep up with him, but he was never out of breath or fatigued.
We will miss him greatly and how he would have enjoyed yesterday's walk.
