Isle of Avalon?

What better place to visit today after yesterday's trip to Stonehenge but Glastonbury Tor, set above the town of Glastonbury and surrounded by the Somerset Levels.

We have passed on the road many times on our way to Street and the Clarks village shopping outlet there.

In great weather again this afternoon it was time to bite the bullet and climb to the top.  I chose this silhouetted picture as it shows up the layers of the Tor created by different strata of rock which have eroded at different rates. The Tor is associated with the Arthurian legend  and the town and Tor are referred to as the Isle of Avalon (apples) because of the marshland that surrounded them in past centuries.

There are 360 degrees views from the top over three counties, and Glastonbury town.  Wells and it's cathedral are just 5 miles away and clearly visible. You can get an idea of the views in the extra.

Glastonbury itself is very 'alternative' and we returned to have tea there and 'alternative' cakes! Interesting!

Fabulous start to October.
