Avant la tempête…

Or, before the storm...

After yesterday’s "Summer" weather, today’s autumnal weather came as a real shock! It stayed dry long enough for us to have a wander around Arcachon’s fishing port and watch one of the newly-arrived fishing boats hauling in their nets (extra photo 1), but as you can see from the colour of the sky, a storm was on its way and it promptly arrived!!

So what do you do when it’s pouring down with rain? Why, go shopping of course! At a nearby hypermarket we spent an enjoyable couple of hours just browsing all the wonderous French goodies on offer, a real shame that I wasn’t travelling by car and couldn’t take home everything that I saw!!

Once the rain had stopped, we took the road that follows the edge of the Arcachon Basin, stopping at one of the many small ports where oyster farming is still thriving (extra photo 2). These little brown wooden fishermen’s huts are very typical of the area, and many offer oyster tastings. I passed on that one! Really not my cup of tea!!

So with the arrival of the storm, sadly no beachside bar for a Kir this evening…
