Spooky stairway

This was in an old (1300's) church. It begins just to the rear of the Pulpit and goes up to an opening above the canopy over the Pulpit. There seemed to be no reason for it in our present times, but I wondered if long ago that may have been where the sermon was given (from on high, so to speak). It seemed eerie in mono, but not quite so bad in colour, see extra photo.
