International Bomber Command Centre

Today was the opening and commemoration service for the Spire and memorial walls of this commemorative centre that will eventually carry the names of the 55.573 aircrew who lost their lives on Bomber Command operations in WWII.
Lincolnshire was home to 27 Bomber Command stations, and from these over 26,500 aircrew who never returned.
The spire and the memorial walls are constructed from weathered red steel, and the height of the spire is exactly the same as the wingspan of a Lancaster bomber.
The opening ceremony was very moving. We four family members were there to especially honour my uncle David Burroughs George, shot down over Holland early in 1945, and whose Commonwealth War Grave in Vernay Netherlands we recently visited.
This features The Spire.
I shall show part of one of the memorial walls tomorrow.
