FAILE

One of the 18 large canvases from the Faile show "Lost in Glimmering Shadows". This is a really spectacular exhibition, a return to form from Faile, whose recent stuff has been a bit tired and lazy. These pictures are very nice, multi-layered screenprints and posters on a large scale.

As well as the canvases there are 14 carved wooden "prayer wheels" which look like cylindrical woodcuts. These are really impressive and should hopefully provide the "craft" for anyone who dismisses the skill or effort required for this stuff. This is not street art by any stretch of the imagination, it is much more formal and traditional - it's "proper" art, no doubt about that. Lots of shots of the other pieces at my other blog (see profile for details).

The exhibition space is awesome, a sunken 1960's wood-panelled school hall right in the middle of one of South London's crumbling council estates (unfortunately for those of us who don't like to cross the river). Which makes the £65,000 price tag on these pictures rather a slap in the face.
