Imitate

The Canberra Museum and Gallery is currently exhibiting Julie Manley's collection of fashion dolls. The big girl and I went to have a look.

We were also impressed at the work of Yang Yongliang who creates beautiful Chinese ink painting and videos reinterpreted in a modern context. "His 'digital landscape paintings' bear a formal likeness to traditional Chinese shanshui landscape paintings, but a closer inspection reveals concrete forests and miniature cities replete with high-rise buildings, flickering neon billboards, congested highways and soaring construction cranes. Yang has said that, 'the ancients used landscape paintings to convey their emotion but I use landscape work to criticise society'" (quote taken from the exhibit).
