The 1300 out of Pickering station. The look on the fireman's face suggests fear rather than regret. The service was fifteen minutes late leaving but then this is quite normal on an unpredictable steam service.


Southern Railway/British Railways Maunsell Class U 2-6-0 No. 31806. Rebuilt at Brighton Works in June 1928 from Class K No. 806, it was withdrawn from Guildford shed in January 1964. It is preserved at The Watercress Line, the marketing name of the Mid-Hants Railway - http://www.watercressline.co.uk/ and is operational, returned to service in 2010.
