Heron with Dinner

A Great Blue Heron has just captured a fish, close by the Rail Trail in Amherst. The price of the double translucence is severe back-lighting, but I think it's worth it. It was a gorgeous afternoon, and our first trip to this wonderful trail in many months--it was completely reconstructed this spring, extending into the summer.  The mottled neck indicates that it's a first-year bird, hatched this spring--it has speared the fish, as best I can tell from my several shots.
