Real Relay
I was privileged to take part in the Endurancelife's Real Relay very early this morning.
It is attempting to run the whole 8000 mile route of the olympic torch route entirely on foot. Unlike the Olympic torch there is no hype, no support, no media coverage (and no jumping on coaches every 5 mins) for this relay. Runners sign up to take on a leg of around 10 miles and then pass on the baton to the next relay runner. So far we are on leg 308 (or so).
Knowledge of it has spread by word of mouth and social networking sites. It has been really heartwarming watching it grow. At the beginning they were struggling to get runners to fill the slots, and now as word has got round and as each new batch of slots is released they are snapped up. There is no fame for any of the relay runners doing each leg - just the knowledge that you have helped do your bit to help in the achievement of this amazing challenge.
