A long journey

Cezanne's Windmill

We genuinely had an accidentally cultural day. Having walked up a steep but little hill near Le Tholonet with Henry in deepest Provence we drove past the stone windmill in the twilight. It is the very windmill Paul Cezanne painted, now without the sails. Climbing up the steps and looking at the view from there we could see the very hill we had climbed. At this angle it was clear that it is the one so often featured in his paintings. This was very exciting, especially as we had been to Arles earlier, a place so associated with Van Gogh.
