Prime Suspect

Following Ceridwen's blip last Friday and her mention of capri-figs got me wondering if we have one – surely we must. We have several fig trees who's figs aren't really worth bothering with but this one down by the guest cottage has never produced anything worth eating, just these tiny little fellows. And what kind of time of year do you call this for having tiny little figs on trees! So this we believe is our prime suspect capri-fig but how can one tell?

It also got me thinking about the word capri. The fact that the capri-fig is also called the goat fig ties in nicely with Capricorn, the goat, but what about the island or more amusingly, the car? Was the Ford Motor Company aware that they had built a goat?

Separately, we have tasted a prickly pear fruit and can announce that the flavour is uninteresting subtle and the fruit is full of pips, but it's still preferable to persimmon/lotus which sucks all the saliva from your mouth quicker than aubergine can absorb all the oil in a frying pan.
