Winter Wheat and Yukon Golds

After running a few errands this afternoon, Rich and I found ourselves in the neighborhood of the Chuckanut Bay Distillery. Realizing their tasting room now had extended hours, we had no choice but to pop in for a taste test.

As soon as we walked through the door we were enveloped by the heady aroma of spirits in the making. I certainly don't know enough about liquor to tell you anything worth knowing, but I do know this: Chuckanut Distillery's handcrafted selection is outstanding. We were offered a taste of everything they make which includes a Bellingham Bourbon, both wheat and potato vodkas, a Bellingham dry gin, a hop schnapps, a coffee liqueur, and my all-time favorite, Krampus, an intoxicating blend of wheat, honey, hazelnuts, cinnamon, and a host of other magical ingredients that come together as a seasonal spirit, released only in the fall. Chuckanut Distillery prides itself on using nearly 100% locally sourced ingredients, including the hops, winter wheat, barley, Yukon Gold potatoes, honey, and hazelnuts (and probably more that I'm not aware of).

Armed with a new bottle of Krampus, we headed home to indulge in a quiet 'happy hour'.
