The Blacksmiths Needle

Located at the Quayside Newcastle this conical tower comprises of six layers, each layer with objects relating to the senses including what was described as the mysterious sixth sense.
Created from sections made at public forges around the country with a maritime theme. 140 blacksmiths from 14 countries countries each made a motif from a Shakespeare play.
The needle was ceremonially inaugurated by percussion ist Evelyn Glennie.
