Bay of Skaill
I headed up to Birsay and the west coast and it turned out that the rare birds were out east, including a hoopoe and a rustic bunting. I had to be satisfied with big flocks of birds like 800 greylag, 500 golden plover, and 200 curlew. The walk started at The Loons hide- a kestrel and hen harrier there, another HH near Skaill Bay. I walked to Marwick then south along the cliffs to the Bay of Skaill and Skara Brae. A muddy pool seemed to hold one or two snipe but as I got close about 40 flew up. I liked the sky over the bay so here it is.
