If you can't beat them...

Longhorn Cow and Calf.

We had moored overnight at Westport Lake and Clickychick began her day by hand feeding the masses of Canada Geese.  I should really say she had them eating out of her hand,   The weather was again wonderful - clear sky and very warm.

As we moved along the Trent & Mersey canal I noticed difference between the stock rearing there and here at home.  Firstly  a fair proportion of the beef stock carried horns.  I can't remember when I last saw horns round home.  The other thing was the mix of breeds while the animals were clearly being reared for beef the Limousin and Charolais weren't as predominant and there were even some pure Herefords, again not common round here.

The other notable thing was almost every herd had one or two longhorns among them.  Originally a draft animal from the Craven area they date back to the 16th & 17th Centuries.  Obviously a beef breed today.

The other notable part of the day was the passage of the Harecastle Tunnel 2926 yards long.
