Boat, River Almond, Cramond Brig

A cold day for the October Spokes Ride to Linlithgow. No rain, but there was a breeze. Unusually, it was a south-easterly, so we got blown out of Edinburgh. This is on the quiet roads and cycle paths until Cramond Brig. Carlowrie Road, which takes us to Kirkliston was initially very busy. From Kirkliston, we took quiet back roads to head through Niddry, skirt Winchburgh, through Faucheldean. At Ecclesmachen Road we regroup, and head in to Linlithgow via a quiet back road.

During lunch, we talked about the Kirkhill Pillar Project. A series of artworks that represent a scale model of the solar system, with its centre at Broxburn Academy, the sun. We also pick blackberries. :-)

After lunch, we headed east. The breeze seems to have dropped. We headed down through Philpstoun to Abercorn. We take the cycle route from outside the church which takes us through the Hopetoun Estate to South Queensferry. The new Forth Crossing is still under construction.

From South Queensferry, we follow the National Cycle Route 1 back to Cramond Brig. There is a new path beside the busy main road, no more tree roots and awkward manhole covers. At Cramond Brig, I stop to take this picture of the boat in the river. From here we all head back in to Edinburgh. The whole ride is a little over 41 miles.

When I get home, it is still cool. End of the indian summer then.
