Staging ready to roll
Yesterday and today I finally, after about 5 years, got the locomotives and cars for the railroad out of their storage boxes. I model two eras, the steam to diesel transition period, and the modern era - but not at the same time on the railroad. Steam won for the maiden run. The trains you can see, and sorry for the poor field of focus (I do know how to fix this), are from left to right: a Rio Grande Southern short freight, a Union Pacific reefer train pulled by an F7 A/B, a UP turbine #22 pulling a long string of reefers, a UP BigBoy pulling a mixed freight, a Denver Rio Grande Western pulling a mixed freight, an F6 pulling the City of Portland passenger train, and a UP challenger with a short passenger train (at the rear). Way back on the second track from the left is a DRGW maintenance of way train.
The extra photos are of the full storage cabinet above the yard, and the storage boxes for excess freight cars, passenger cars, and locomotives. I have been collecting for over 25 years so I have more than would fit all at once. However, when the rest of the track is laid and industries built, the layout can absorb at least 50 freight cars at various sidings. But - I still need the storage. Nice problem to have
The storage in the cabinet and shelving allows me to quickly and easily transfer cars and locomotives off the layout world into storage, replacing them with different cars. Fun stuff.
Now - I am going to run some trains. And for you purists out there, I have not weathered anything as yet. Fairly daunting task with this much rolling stock but that will come over time.
