Old Pulteney

Northern Malts have their own distinctive style. The best known, of course, is Highland Park in the town of Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands. Distinctive and clearer I think is Scapa just across the road. And over the Pentland Firth, the most northerly mainland malt distillery is in the town of Wick - Old Pulteney.

Pulteney Distillery has been in operation since 1826. At one time many of the distillery workers also went to the herring fishing - but that industry is now gone.

It is a world class single malt! They say you can taste the location - and I think you can. A hint of the sea about this one. Highly recommended.
