Fitzpatricks's Temperance Bar , Rawtenstall, Lancs

Fitzpatrick's in Rawtenstall , Britain's only surviving original  temperance bar .(It does'nt serve alcohol.) opened in 1889 . The Temperance Society formed in the North of England encouraged no alcohol and good Christian values . People worked to stay away from drink , earned their badge and membership. They did not stay home but gathered for parties and sing songs etc. The new ownership who took over from Mr Fitzpatrick ( he lived until the age of 90 ) carry on using the same recipes for the drinks .The cordials are wonderful. Today I tasted all .You can do this .I bought , Dandelion and Burdock Cordial, Sarsaparilla, Rhubarb and Rosehip, Blackcurrant and Liquorice .All these cordials can be drunk cold or hot and used in cooking .Their icecream is wonderful. It was my duty to test and report .I met several people who are regulars and enjoyed the visit.A first but not a last .Open every day Monday to Saturday 10am until 4pm you can get there by car, 5 Bank Street , Rawtenstall.  Bus X43 from Manchester almost to the door .A fascinating place. Ideal for some gift ideas , look up : mrfitzpatricks.com
My extra is a witty poem seen on the bar today .
Also they do offer an online service .
