Murrumbidgee River
Today we had some time to fill in before a work appointment so we drove out to look at the Murrumbidgee River. The River Red Gums are beautiful and must be very old. They used to have shallow draft paddle steamers to transport the produce to and from these inland settlements.it is almost 1000 k to Sydney so the closest settlements would have been Melbourne in Victoria or Adelaide. This town, Balranald, is about 150 years old- since European settlement. It's claim to fame now is it's endangered frogs and proximity to Mungo a world heritage site. Early Aboriginal remains were found there dating back 40,000 years and remains of human habitation date back 50,000 years.
After the work related jobs we drove to Mildura in Victoria. It is a large city on the Murray River. Tonight we went out with some locals who used to do the same work here that I do in the Eastern parts of the state. We have taken on a large new area to service so this trip is a bit of a discovery tour and to meet the people I will be working with in future. tomorrow I have four work meetings and need to get the car air conditioner fixed. That will take all day. Sorry I don't have time for comments this week.
