Dawlish colonnade

We are in the seaside resort of Dawlish in Devon.

Famous for the coastal railway line running close to the shoreline.

The floods of February 2014 demolished part of the line which collapsed with dramatic effect.

The engineer originally responsible for the construction was none other than Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

The station was opened by the South Devon Railway on 30 May 1846.

This colonnade of iron pillars with their entablature is part of the original viaduct crossing.

Dawlish is also well known for its black swans and I have included one in the Extra photo
