Quartermile
The "Quartermile" development of the old Royal Infirmary site in the middle of Edinburgh has many of the traditional flaws of post war planning in the city. The sense of an opportunity lost hangs heavy between the modern blocks in the centre of the site during the daylight hours. At night we can catch a glimpse of the glossy new district the architects and city planners imagine may emerge if we cross our fingers and hold our breath long enough..
