An Ikonic Adventure

Open-top buses should not drive close to trees

What is known as one of the great tours in the media industry, Kym and I were lucky enough to be invited by JC Decaux to ‘unwrap’ Sydney.

Starting off in the CBD to check out some Innovate sites, we toured around to get a really great idea of the City Lights coverage. Hopping on a private ferry we then docked at Manly wharf to a delicious lunch which provided some much needed energy for the Harbour Bridge climb. Through high km winds, a bit of rain and Kym’s fear of heights, we not only conquered the climb but received a free blow-dry (needless to say we both decided to go for the ‘wind swept’ look that night).

Coming off the back of a few other Ikon members last year, we had big shoes to fill at the launch of Orbit. On the rooftop of the Museum of Contemporary Art, we thought it couldn’t get any better having views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera house until we were brought our own specially catered plates of food (am sure the waitress was now glad we didn’t have to ask if something was gluten/dairy free or vego).

A few champagnes and red wines later we were ready to burn up the d.floor – special mention goes to Lou and Billy rocking out the T-Swizzle moves to ‘Shake It Off’.

Continuing on to the after party at the Ivy, our realisations that we probably had a few more than we thought hit home when we tried to get in a cab back to the QT Hotel, only for the driver to tell us to get out and walk…. refusing to accept this (we were in heels) I consulted Siri for a second opinion, when she reminded us “you are at your destination” as we literally walked around the corner.  Well then, it was clearly bed time.

The morning after revealed a few sore heads as we toured over to Coogee for a delicious breakky by the beach before heading back.
