Mystery

I spent the first part of my day in labs and lectures, before heading home on the train for my grandma's funeral tomorrow.

As soon as I got in the door, my mum asked me to identify this flower. I have no idea though, and the app on my phone didn't know either. It's very strange, although I'm not even sure if it is a flower (but what else would it be..) Any ideas?
