Following in his footsteps

I’ve brought a book – ‘Walking Dickens’ London’

I bought it to encourage me to look for older buildings to bring you, together with their history.

This is Simpson’s in Ball Court.  It is a Victorian ‘Chop House’.  Chop Houses were the lunchtime restaurant of choice for Victorian City clerks, typically partitioned into curtained-off wooden booth, specialising in quickly prepared , sizzling chops and steaks.

It may well still serve food but as you can see the drinks are quite popular too.
