Apples over the fence

This tree is in the primary school grounds just over our garden fence, nicely in picking distance with the aid of a step ladder. Before the area was built on there was a pig farm and these trees are a fairly old variety, the apples are very tasty.
Now here is the stupid part. Each lunch time for the past week some of the children have been provided with garden spades, forks and rakes and told to bury the apples. When we asked them why they were burying them they said because they are poisonous.
When we questioned the school and suggested teaching them about healthy eating, the reply given was that the apples were dirty.
Not half as risky as giving unsupervised 10 year olds sharp tools to wave about.
Perhaps it's me being a grumpy old git. Anyway I'm off to eat my stolen forbidden fruit.
