Blind cow
Blind cow has had her calf - she lives in paddock number one with the other sick, lame and lazy, she's there for obvious reasons, never really straying far - again, for obvious reasons. She's kept because she is pretty, so even if you are a cow, looks can save you.
She's been looking like she was about to pop for weeks, and now it's finally happened she has a very lovely little boy (orange ear tag - yellow for girls). The zebra's have become very protective of her and her little boy and are never far away from her at the moment - they were about 20 metres to my left when I nipped out to take a picture of her. I'm clearly getting to know the cows a little bit as she is quite a dear thing. Dirk has high hopes that her boy will grow up to be a very nice bull, time will tell on that one.
Today we went for coffee in town with a few friends, which was lovely and then we had yet another trip around the local builders merchants. It's very trying in the heat going from one place to another because 'the man who cuts the 10,000m roll of wire into 50m has gone to the clinic' (yes, this was the reason we couldn't get wire cable from one place - I crave being back in the UK sometimes!).
After an early afternoon weigh-in of the boy (7.34kg - all fine), we were deposited in a coffee shop whilst Dirk raced around to finish the oh so frustrating shopping, which was a far better arrangement. With the supplies needed to renovate the temporary cattle pen, we went home for an evening walk to 'make a plan' - as they say here.
Thankfully, it's cooled off a little this evening so it was lovely to be out - we could see the rain coming down far away, but nothing here as yet. We do have another power cut so when the generator goes off, it'll be candle light only. Which can only mean it's time to get a cup of tea whilst I can!
