Hay Bridge Nature Reserve

Well, lucky me! I've just had two weeks away on the boat and now I'm having two nights away in the caravan. We are staying in the south of Cumbria near to Newby Bridge.

Last months's Lancashire Life, which also reports on bits of Cumbria, was rating Hay Bridge nature reserve very highly so we came to have a look.

We arrived at a small Caravan Club site mid-afternoon and after getting set up we went out to see the reserve. We had to drive for about a mile down a single track lane, dreading meeting anyone coming the other way.

All we wanted to do tonight was to find out how to get to reserve so we just did a short walk. When we returned to the car we met a chap who was the remaining founder member of the reserve. Not only did we chat about the reserve, but also about the narrowboat he built and his trips on the canal network.
